This February I’m sewing along with Male Pattern Boldness and a bunch of other talented seamsters. We’re all making men’s shirts. Mine is for my husband, and here’s a reflection on my efforts to sew well.

I received the silk inspiration from FineFabrics.com in the mail this weekend, and I couldn’t be happier. And, what service! Since Susanne knew I was getting the silk for the men’s shirt Sew-Along project, she also included a swatch of potential fabric for the body of the shirt and a button to match.
Sadly, I’m already playing catch up in the Sew-Along. Because I waited so long to commit, I didn’t have the pattern in hand when the Sew-Along began on Tuesday. It finally came in the mail on Friday, and I eagerly cut out all of the pieces needed to make the 1970s Butterick 4712 Shirt A.

I’ve been cutting out pieces for the muslin every time I can sneak in a few moments this weekend. I don’t think I’ll put pockets or the sleeve tabs on the actual shirt, but I do want to try everything on the muslin for practice.
