This September I’m sewing along with Casey at Elegant Musings. A bunch of talented seamsters and I are all making circle skirts, and here’s a reflection on my efforts to sew well.
I’ve really enjoyed the Circle-Skirt Sew-Along so far. The pace has been wonderful – maybe a baby step a week – which means I’ve been able to keep up despite being sick and having too much to do at work. Not to mention that doing math and drawing circles both make me happy.
The indigo-dyed cotton batiste I’m using is actually a soft and elegant blue, almost a denim blue. Since denim blue is viewed as a neutral to most people, I think this skirt will be very versatile in its possible pairing partners. And, just as I’d hoped, the fabric was wide enough for me to cut the whole skirt out on the fold, though I decided to cut it with a side seam anyway so that I could also add Lonsdale-style pockets.
I have yards of the blue fabric left thanks to its width. I’ve already printed, cut, and taped together the BurdaStyle JJ pattern – another exciting project to add to the list!
From what I gathered, Kristin and I are the only two from this circle joining in this Sew-Along. Any other late comers out there?
