This winter I’m joining a bunch of other talented seamsters in the Stitcher’s Guild’s Sewing with a Plan 2012 challenge. We’re all making eleven garments from tried-and-true patterns. Unfortunately, I don’t have any. My goal is to discover several TNTs over the course of the challenge through proper fitting, and here’s a reflection on my efforts to sew well.
My SWAP plans are already slipping. Discovering the Make Me a Mermaid Silk Chiffon did me in. For me it has bow blouse written all over it. Out went the Silk Satin Faced Chiffon Print for this ombre dyed beauty. It’s deep blue along both selvedges, which means that there’s only 26″ or so from the goldest gold to the bluest blue. My current plan is to cut my Pendrell pieces cross grain – with the gold near my face, fading to blue at my waist. But, another thing I’m debating is whether or not a bow blouse is best as a button down. Would it be better to draft the bow collar for the JJ?
After switching out the chiffons, I made this collage of my current SWAP goals for the other SWAP members (I still have the bow blouse as a Pendrell here). I figured I’d share it with you guys as well. When you see it together, you can tell that it’s mostly neutrals with a few fun blues.

Really inspiring and kind of overwhelming. 🙂 I love that chiffon. It will be beautiful as a tie blouse. I like your original idea of altering the Pendrell blouse mostly because a button placket in chiffon sounds like a nightmare.
The whole collection looks great! I’m excited to see it come together.
