It’s hard to believe I’ve been writing a sewing blog for an entire year. When I got my machine just a wee bit over two years ago, I never dreamed I’d like sewing as much as I do. Looking back, the path to where I am now seems obvious considering the good examples my grandmothers set and the sewing notions they handed down; the lessons and gifts provided by my mother-in-law; and all of the listening, chatting, sewing, and writing that all of you do to inspire me.
In honor of my first anniversary here in the blogosphere, I’m hosting my first giveaway. I’ve been looking forward to this giveaway, knowing that I wanted to recreate the gift that launched me into garment sewing by gifting some fabric and a pattern to one of you. While in Santa Barbara visiting family for the Christmas holiday, I headed into Fine Fabrics in search of fabric and a pattern that would by worthy of this anniversary giveaway . Inspiration hit as soon as I entered the store in the form of a cute jacket that had been draped around a dress form.
When I asked about the fabric I was excited to learn that the wool blend was even part of their holiday sale (lucky me and lucky you!). I searched for a pattern and found one that matched the drape almost perfectly, McCall’s M5527. I even found the perfect button. Everything came together better than I could have imagined.
Later I even saw that a nearly identical fabric had been used in the catalog version of Vogue Vintage Model V8767, which means that the fabric can be successfully made up into any number of garments, both modern and vintage, if the winner so chooses.
So, come one and come all for a chance to win McCall’s M5527 in size AA (which includes sizes 6, 8, 10, and 12), two yards of a black-and-white wool blend, and a cute leather button. To enter, just leave a comment on this post. I will pick a winner at random a week from now on January 14th at noon PST.
