This year I’m sewing along with Gertie from Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing. A bunch of other talented seamsters and I have joined up through the Craftsy online community to make perfectly fitted bombshell dresses. Here’s a reflection on my efforts to sew well.
Week two, episode two: how to work with digital BurdaStyle patterns.
The pattern for the Sew Retro: Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress class is the BurdaStyle 5/2011 Bustier Dress with Draped Detail. You get the printable pdf pattern with the purchase of the class. It sounds easy enough, but it actually takes quite a bit of space to lay everything out. I cut out each piece as they came together since my little apartment doesn’t allow for the entirety of the pattern to be all laid out together. That said, this week was another easy week as I’d already printed out and taped together the pattern back in the fall. From here on out though it’ll all be new. Let’s hope I can keep up!
oh my goodness. there are a lot of pattern pieces! i love the fabric you picked out and i’m excited to see it all come together. it’s such a cute dress.
They’re teeny tiny though. It feels less daunting in person.
Two sew-alongs – I’m impressed. Can’t even do one, at the moment. Good luck and look forward to seeing the progress.
Yes, we’ll see how well I can juggle. I’m already behind in the Minoru Sew-Along, and it’s only day two!
I’ll admit that the reason I back-burnered this project right away was because I couldn’t get the pattern pieces to line up! I’m going to have to bite the bullet and try again from scratch, I think. I hope it went together easily for you!
You should! Maybe you just need to print the pattern out again. If you need an incentive, join me in trying to get through a video a week. Or, go slower if you want. A video every other week or every third, whatever works until you get a bit of momentum. Let’s make dresses!
I wish there was an option to purchase the pattern in an envelope. Printing it was a lot of work – well putting together the printed version. I have to get back to it!!!
