This year I’m sewing along with Gertie from Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing. A bunch of other talented seamsters and I have joined up through the Craftsy online community to make perfectly fitted bombshell dresses. Here’s a reflection on my efforts to sew well.
I have to admit that I was very intimidated by this week’s bombshell dress video. Putting the first real stitches into the silk was scary! Especially since it involved stitching in those crazy cup pieces. Awkward curves and pivot points and giant seam allowances and matching points (which all still don’t quite match up despite several rips and reattempts) meant very slow sewing. But, it all came together.
And, I have to say that I love the point when the fabric starts to take shape.
When flat pieces start to look like something it is thrilling! What kind of dress form do you have?
It’s my grandmother’s old form. It’s adjustable in a million different ways, but it needs a bit of work to stay stable. It shifts a bit every now and then, when has deterred me from padding and covering it.
I love this stage – it’s so fun to see everything take form!
It’s one of my favorite parts of the sewing process.
It’s going to look stunning!!! Great work.
The color is gorgeous! Can’t wait to see more!
